Stitching Up Hope
Since so many women are affected by breast cancer,
we have decided to hold benefit auctions and quilt shows
to benefit the Stefanie Spielman Fund for Breast Cancer Research
at the Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital in Columbus, Ohio.
The James is a world-class cancer research hospital affiliated with The Ohio State University.
We have asked quilters to construct a 9 1/2 inch (unfinished) quilt
block using a fat quarter we provided along with any other
coordinates they had.
These blocks have been assembled into quilts and wall hangings
for quilt shows and auctions.
All proceeds from the auctions will go directly to the Stefanie Spielman Fund.
All labor and materials are being donated for this project.
This is an on-going project and YOU can help! Call or email us.

The bright bees and floral fabric used
in this paper pieced block was the first
focus fabric we chose for the 2004 project.
Internationally, blocks have been sent from Australia,
France, New Zealand, United Kingdom and Canada.

The rose red floral bud print was the
second focus fabric we selected.
Many of the blocks we've received are
dedicated in memory of a cancer victim
or in honor of a cancer survivor.
This block is an especially nice one
in memory of a friend.

The third focus fabric we chose is
the purple and blue bud floral fabric.
We used a 15 yard bolt and cut it into
fat quarter for use in these blocks.
That's 60 fat quarters of this fabric alone!

On April 17, 2004, twelve dedicated quilters
and sewers enjoyed designing and piecing
several hundred quilt blocks into
quilts and wallhangings. On May 12 and 13
two more sewing sessions created more
than a dozen quilt tops!
We received over 900 quilt blocks and
two completed quilt tops from two different quilt guilds!
Enjoy these photos of the ladies hard at work!

Here's the dedicated volunteers who assembled
12 quilt tops and wallhangings in just 6 hours!
We are showing just a few of the completed tops.

Enjoy these photos of 15 of the completed quilts!
Many more quilts and wallhangings are out to quilters
being quilted and finished.

Thanks to some dedicated long-arm and short-arm
quilters, we have 27 quilts and wallhangings finished
as of August 12th. Special thanks go to Susan Holmes
and Becky Mumford who tackled more than one project for us.
Here are some of the finished items ready for the quilt shows!

Enjoy some more! All these items and more
keep arriving as they are completed!

An especially generous quilt guild donated 52 blocks!
Another quilt guild made an entire quilt top and sent it!
As soon as we get these new blocks assembled into tops for quilts,
wall hangings and table toppers, we will add photos.

One Million Pillowcases
As part of American Patchwork and Quilting magazine's One Million
Pillowcases project, we joined with our customers to make beautiful
and fun pillowcases for four local and regional charities. Depending
upon the style and print of the pillowcase, we donated over 100
pillowcases so far to Arcadia Acres Assisted Living Center, Anna's
Retirement Center, Hocking County Children's Services (newly displaced
foster children), and Nationwide Children's Hospital (young cancer patients).

In July 2012 we sent an additional 62 pillow cases to the Nationwide Children's Hospital
in Columbus, Ohio, through the fine organization of ConKer Cancer.
The pillow cases are shared with family members and children
during their extended stay during treatment.

Make Ugly Beautiful Challenge
Join us in making an "ugly" fabric into a beautiful block!
We send you a free fat quarter of an ugly fabric and ask that you use it to design
a 12 1/2" (unfinished size) block and submit it to us.
We occasionally give prizes to the most creative and beautiful one submitted -
ask about the deadlines for that. We the use the submitted blocks
to make quilts, table runner, wall hangings, etc. to be sold/auctioned
to benefit the Stefanie Spielman Fund for Breast Cancer Research
at The Ohio State University. This swatch is the one sent out in January 2013.
Below is the current one being sent out in February 2013.
